AN acoustic trio from Noosa Queensland, Flashjack, will stoke up the punters at the Golden Hill Steiner School family bush dance this Saturday.  
Bush band music has evolved since early European settlement in a fusion of Celtic and other European folk music and lyrics spun to include Aussie-specific names, places and yarns.

First CD from the sea

LAURA the Mermaid (Laura Rice) will launch her first album, Salt and the Sea, on Sunday, May 26 in an outdoor event at Aeracura, 108 Ocean Beach Road.
 The launch will run from 2- 4pm, with the RSL Hall as backup venue in case of wild weather.
 In each song on the album, Laura takes the time to tell the whole story.
 Some songs have what seems like a lifetime of knowing breathed into them while others range from hip to hippie, sung to a strumming ukulele, guitar or a cappella.  Read More ...

ENVIRONMENTAL artist Chris Drury presented an unassuming narrative, which almost understated the breath and depth of his work, in the old Lodge recently.

Art and music focus of local youth week

ART, break dance, beat boxing and lots of music in the civic centre was Denmark Youth Services’ contribution to National Youth Week recently.
 The special Saturday Youth Fest featured break dance and beat boxing workshops with Paulie P and Moondog J, a youth open mic timeslot and a performance from the Great Southern Institute of Technology Denmark student band, The Flying Embers.  Read More ...

Local launch for novel

FORMER Denmark author Bruce Menzies’ first novel, Absence Makes, will be launched at the Butter Factory Studios on Sunday, May 26 at 4pm not Saturday, May 25 as previously scheduled.
 Fellow-author Jon Doust of Albany will launch the book written by the former owner of Bombina Cottages.
 In the novel, Bruce explores themes of love and loss, and ‘the magic of hope’.  Read More ...
